Nothing is Certain
I am reminded by current events that nothing in life is certain...
Only death & taxes so they say
Maybe someday we will be free of taxes
Is death also such a certainty?
So few of us make it through the starting gate
How could one dare to believe in immortality?
All of us exist,
Though some exist not in the memory of the collective
Only in the memory of the ones who loved them
Who also shall one day pass on
Left only in the memories of the ones who loved them
How long the chain of love
That binds us all together
How short the tempers of hatred
That tear us apart
Dreams unrealized
Go with us to the light
